We are all for it! Smartwatches, flip phones, and a host of other options are practical and great.
- I have privacy concerns about my name being displayed on the website - what can I do?
Please add yourself in whatever way feels comfortable. For example, the Smith Family, J. Smith, and Jane S. are all great alternatives for Jane Smith to add her name. There is value for people in being able to find friends on the list, but that must be balanced with other concerns.
- How is this different from Wait Until 8th?
Our group is local and our website allows people to see their friends and neighbors making an intentional choice. This is helpful in developing community norms and in conversations with kids. Wait Until 8th is doing similar work on a national scale and without a public-facing list of participants.
- I gave my eldest child a smartphone in middle school, but now I'm rethinking that choice for my younger children. Can I still join the list?
Absolutely! We appreciate that folks continually evaluate the parenting choices that they make, especially on an evolving issue like this one. If you are planning to delay smartphones for any of your children going forward, please add your name to the list!
